In the early 1960′s Joe Sarno embarked on his journey into the world of sexploitation. His films were very charming and took a good looking cast and combined them with a well written plot, witty-dialog, eroticism and some great music. Many of his early films were shot exclusively for Distribpix. Some of these posters are available for sale at our official online store at www.videoxpix.com.

Really a great little film, that kind of jump started the career of a young Sharon Mitchell. Basically, she plays the typical female who is pressured into a sexual situation, in which she refuses her boyfriends sexual advances and in the process she is no longer burdened by her relationship. In a classic turn of events, she is violated and raped and er…… loves it! Let’s all remember that this was truly an era when political correctness was in it’s infancy, so just enjoy this golden age classic.
During this past summer, I was thrilled to find some of the original artwork for many of our films, from the art for the box covers to the original story boards and movie cards. It was during one day in August that I found the art for ‘Joy’. There was actually a wonderful storyboard campaign for this film and it’s working titles. And after finding them, it makes the film that much more vintage. I think the title might not have gone over as well in the 70′s as ‘Meet the Rapists’ or ‘The Female Rapist’ , but today, that is what the cult fans are looking for, plus I own the original negative, so it might be worth a restoration at some point, maybe even with a Sharon Mitchell commentary?

Joseph Sarno was one of the greatest film makers of all time. As previously mentioned on this blog we are planning to release a special DVD edition of several of Joe’s early sexploitation films, all transferred from the original film elements. ‘Nude in Charcoal’ and ‘The Bed and How to Make It’ are 2 films that we are providing to the Anthology for this great tribute. This is an amazing opportunity to see these great Sarno classics, as well as many others, in a true theater, the way they were meant to be seen. If you are in NYC, and you are a Sarno fan, you should seriously consider attending, one or several of the screenings.

The Legendary filmmaker Joseph Sarno has passed away at the age of 89. Joe was one of the true great directors from the golden age of filmmaking. He made some of the most well known exploitation/sexploitation/XXX films of all time and was adored by thousands of fans around the world. He will be missed by many and our condolences go out to Joe’s family.
I was very young when I first began to know of Joe. He was film guy at my fathers production company, DISTRIBPIX, in the late 60′s and 70′s and even in the 80′s. I would go to work with my dad and that is how I first go to know Joe. He was the koolest guy, especially to a kid, which I was at the time. I have fond memories of being a kid and having dinner with my father and his business associates, and Joe was always there. There was a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown(NYC) and it was everybody’s favorite. It was called 4-5-6. Anyway, they had the best sizzling shrimp/rice soup, amazing fried pork dumplings, and a mind blowing dish called shredded chicken/beef/pork. Many of the dishes were strewn with those red szechuan peppers. Once I remember Joe eating one of those peppers and he started to sweat and turn beet red and his voice got very raspy, it was hilarious. At the time, I really did not know of any of Joe’s work, I was very young and that is the great thing about some of my memories of Joe, they were not necessarily about his filmmaking, but just regular moments, I got to share. Just thought I would share an old memory that came to mind, after learning of his death, earlier today. I am very friendly with Joe’s son, Billy, and he did tell me that Joe has been in and out of the hospital for the past few weeks, so I knew he was ill, but I did not expect this.
Joe was 89 years old and he lived a full and productive life. More often than not ,we have been seeing many legends of the world of filmmaking die way too early in life. I think it is safe to say that in Joe’s case, he had an amazing run. It seems that there is not a single person that I know of who has anything bad to say about Joe Sarno. He was a great guy and even though we were not in constant contact, I will certainly miss him.
As someone who is continuing the great legacy of Distribpix, I am particularly happy trying my best to commemorate the true greats of golden age cinema. For this reason, and with the passing of Joe, we think that it would be a perfect time to introduce a few films by Joe Sarno from the Distribpix vault, THE BED AND HOW TO MAKE IT and NUDE IN CHARCOAL, are 2 that have been re-mastered from the original 35 mm negatives. As soon as we have a release date, we will post it.

Yes, there is some rumors going around about the possibility of this Jonas Middleton cult favorite being released in HD. I am proud to say that these rumors are true. It is in the works and if things come together as planned , it will be our first true HD transfer. The package will have multiple discs, the HD version, a standard version, and soft-core version of the film, all re-mastered, as well as another one of Middleton’s soft core gems, shot for DISTRIBPIX, “CHERRY BLOSSOM”.
